Raoul Wallenberg was born in Sweden in 1912. As he grew older, after graduating high school he spent eight months in the Swedish military. After he served, he went to America and studied architecture at the University of Michigan. He returned to Sweden in 1935 after he graduated from the university. He didn't find jobs in Sweden, so his grandfather arranged him a job in South Africa.
Raoul Wallenberg met two Jewish people for the first time during a business trip in Cape Town, South Africa. Those people ran away from the Europe because of Nazi Germany. Wallenburg was greatly affected emotionally by these people's stories.
He soon went back to Sweden, and began to learn about the Nazi regime and other political aspects of Germany. This soon triggered his activism against Nazi Germany.
